Daniel Jones BA (Hons), Dip Law, Bar at Law

Born in London and now resident in Northern Ireland, Daniel was educated in England and attended the Universities of London (Bachelor of Arts with Honours) and Leicester (Diploma in Law). Having attended the Inns of Court School of Law (1993-1994), he is a practising barrister with chambers in London, and has a number of other business interests.

First introduced, a number of years ago, to the theory of the relationship between the atmospheric environment, particularly the weather, and its influence on health by Dr John Bart (Co-Founder of Mediclim Enterprises Inc, and co-developer of the Mediclim Index), Daniel has maintained a keen interest in this field, noting in particular the conclusions of the research studies showing the statistical significance of this interrelationship.

Daniel has been a diabetic (type 1) since early childhood, and has himself noticed the benefit from the alert system generated by Mediclim.

Daniel is married and has two children. His hobbies include sailing, scuba diving and golf. The combination of his personal background and his professional experience brings a unique skill set to the Mediclim project.

David Cooper

Born in Rostrevor, Northern Ireland, David attended University College Dublin (Bachelor of Science) and University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Engineering (M.Sc.Manufacturing Systems Engineering). 

Davids company, Genersys Ireland Limited provide renewable energy and solar water heating system solutions for residential and commercial projects throughout Ireland He also has a number of other business interests.

David is married and has three children and resides in Rostrevor, Northern Ireland. His hobbies include sailing, hill walking and golf. 

Davids professional business experience brings an important hand-on skillset to the Mediclim project.

Dr. John Bart

Degrees: B.Sc.(Anat), 1966;  M.B.B.S.(1969) (London), L.R.C.P. M.R.C.S. L.M.C.C. 1974.

Born in Colwyn Bay, North Wales and Educated at St. Paul’s School in London, England Dr. John Bart received medical training at Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London.  After moving to Toronto, Canada in 1973, Dr. Bart opened a family practice which he continues to run today. 

Dr. Bart has been a member of the Toronto HIV Primary Care Physicians Group since its inception in 1984 and a member of C.A.P.E., the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, since its inception.

As a co-founder of the Canadian Medical Meteorological Network,  Dr. Bart is concerned with the relationship between the atmospheric environment, particularly the weather, and human health and co-developed the MediClim index in 1982 relating the two.

Dr. Bart has five children and four grandchildren.  He plays the cello, is a fervent dog walker and excels at contract bridge.

Denis A. Bourque

Degrees: B.Sc., M.Sc.

Born in Quebec, and educated in Ontario and Quebec, Denis Bourque is a graduate of McGill University with a Bachelor of Science (Physics) 1992 and a Master of Science (Meteorology) 1974.

A public servant for the past 32 years, Mr. Bourque has worked in meteorology his entire career, working variously in research, administrative, managerial and senior management advisory capacities in the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC).  Mr. Bourque has been a senior policy advisor in MSC for the past 13 years  Currently, he is on assignment overseeing a general review of those MSC weather services and products  which  focus on health benefits, such as the UV Index and the Wind Chill.

Mr. Bourque’s interest in the weather’s influence on health began over 25 years ago in the early 1980’s and has been a personal pursuit ever since.  By the late eigthies, Mr. Bourque working with Dr. John Bart, had assembled a wealth of knowledge from existing scientific literature about this relationship, focusing in particular on its potential use as a tool to support the administration of health services in Canada.

1992 to 1994, Mr. Bourque led a study of the potential role which the Meteorological Service of Canada could play in health services.  He also spearheaded an international gathering on the subject in Ottawa in 1992 and continued to promote the topic over the next decade, most recently by organizing a major two-year Climate Change funded study of the relationship between hospital Emergency Room attendance and weather.

For the past 15 years, Mr. Bourque has been in frequent demand from the media on the topic of weather & health.  He has conducted numerous radio interviews on both independent stations and network radio across the country, has appeared on television including CTV’s “Canada AM”,  CBC’s “The Health Show”, Newsworld, le Réseau des informations, TVA, and The Discovery Channel, and has been frequently written about in the print media across the country.

Married with 2 children, Mr. Bourque resides in Ottawa.
